Hi, I’m Gio.

The Nomad Paws grew out of a frustration most pet owners will recognise. Working out whether your dog can fly with a particular airline, or what a country needs before it will let your cat in, usually means a dozen open tabs, a forum thread from years ago and a nagging suspicion that something important has changed since.

I wanted one place that got it right and kept it right.

The site carries on in memory of Woody, my dachshund and the best travel companion I could have asked for.

Where a guide begins

Every guide starts with the unglamorous part: reading the rules at their source. That means the airline’s own pet policy, the government’s import requirements and the official veterinary guidance, not someone else’s summary of them.

Rules are often vaguer than they should be, and sources sometimes contradict each other. When that happens I tell you, rather than papering over the gap, and I link to the original so you can judge for yourself.

Where AI fits in

AI is part of how I work, and I would rather be upfront about it.

I use it much as a writer leans on a good editor: to give shape to a pile of notes, to tighten a paragraph that rambles, to ask the awkward question I had overlooked.

What it doesn’t do is decide what is true or press publish. Every guide passes through my hands before it goes live, checked against the sources and rewritten wherever it doesn’t sound like something I would actually say.

Keeping up with the rules

Pet travel rules have a habit of shifting quietly, often with nothing more than an updated PDF on an airline’s website. I revisit guides as things change, and the date on a page tells you when it was last checked.

Even so, treat what you read here as the groundwork for your plans rather than the final word. A quick call to your airline or the destination’s authorities before you travel is always worth the ten minutes.

Reviews and buyer’s guides

You will find two kinds of gear content on the site.

Hands-on reviews cover products I have used myself, and they tell you plainly how those products held up.

Buyer’s guides, such as which carriers fit within a particular airline’s under-seat limits, are comparisons built from research into manufacturer specifications and the airlines’ own rules. They make that clear, and each one explains how the shortlist was put together.

Affiliate links

Some links take you to Amazon through the Amazon Associates programme. If you buy something that way I may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you.

That income helps keep the site running, but it has no say in what gets recommended or how it is described. The full details are in the affiliate disclosure.

Spotted something wrong?

If you find a detail that is wrong or out of date, I would genuinely like to hear about it.

Drop me a line through the contact page and I will look into it and put it right.
