Short answer: in Salt Lake County, look for a patio on the county’s approved list. Every Salt Lake pick below is on the 2026 list, and Squatters Sugar House calls its patio “Utah’s first licensed dog-friendly patio”.
Restaurants need a yearly county permit to allow dogs outside, and the rules are clear: leash, license and rabies tags, and no dogs on chairs or tables. Park City sits in Summit County, which runs its own permit.
Salt Lake City has an unusually tidy answer to “can my dog sit with me?”. The county publishes the list.
We rewrote this guide in October 2026 against that list. Wasatch Brew Pub is now Squatters Sugar House, Shades has moved, and three places came off because we couldn’t confirm a dog permit or policy.

The rule for dogs on Utah patios

Utah has no statewide law on dogs on restaurant patios. Salt Lake County changed its food sanitation rules in 2012 so restaurants can allow dogs outside with a yearly permit, and it publishes the approved list each season.
Dogs must be leashed, wear license and rabies tags, stay off tables and chairs, and never touch food or dishes. The county’s dog patio page has the current list. The approvals cover the summer dining season, so check in winter.
What changed in this update
- Wasatch Brew Pub: now Squatters Sugar House, same address.
- Shades Brewing: its 300 West taproom became Engine Room Pub, and it is off the county’s 2026 list.
- Grid City Beer Works: removed: not on the 2026 list and no dog policy published.
- Powder: removed: no dog policy we could find.
New this time: Atomic Biscuit, Hub & Spoke Diner and HandleBar.
Before you go
Summer patios get hot and winter ones close. Bring water, check the county list for your dates, and have your dog’s tags on.

Every listing was checked on 13 October 2026 against the restaurant’s own website, the local health department or the city’s tourism office, and each card says which. Patios and policies change with the seasons, so call ahead before you go. Here is how I make my guides.
